Chicken cupcakes?

Finger licking good versus cute factor.

Cak-ey Perry

Now that’s a dress and a half! Or is it half of a dress? Either way Katy Perry was looking delicious in a purple latex cupcake ensemble at a charity concert in New York last night.

Googleplex goes healthy… ish

First there was the android, and the cupcake, and the donut, and the eclair… now I am please to announce the new sweet statue to festoon the front of Googleplex. “Froyo” - that’s frozen yoghurt to you and I. It looks a little like one of our baby gifts, but comes complete with giant slices of banana, strawberry and blueberries. Still covered in bubblewrap on the Google lawn, but I found a sneak preview online. Today, happily, I beat my nerd sources to the punch. Yippee!

Move over cupcakes…

Is there anyone out there who remembers Fletch and my favourite line “It’s all ball bearings nowadays”?… Well move over cupcakes, its all macarons these days. Macarons, one o, sound french (mak-AH-ron). Apparantly very different to their coconut based cousin with two os, the macaroon (mak-ah-ROON).

“Cupcakes are gauche,” said Carter Holton, pastry chef at Le Fou Frog and pastry instructor at the Art Institutes International at Kansas City. “There’s all that frosting on a little dry cake. Macarons are much more posh. Anybody can make a cupcake, but macarons have a ‘je ne sais quoi.’?”

For the dummies amongst us, I have learnt that a “macaron” is a fancy way of describing brightly coloured crispy shelled biscuits filled with buttercream. A la-di-da Kingston, if you will.

And what do you call a place that sells them? A macaronerie? (Mak-AH-ron-er-ee)

the cupcake & the android now have friends

Last year, I blogged about the Android and the Cupcake who live out the front of Googleplex. But it seems that the computer geeks who follow the baby gifts blog seem to have forgotten to keep me posted with their nerdy updates…

The new releases of the Android operating system have been named after desserts in alphabetical order. Cupcake has now been followed by Donut, has now been followed by Eclair and will soon be followed by Flan.

Q: How many computer geeks does it take to install a giant chocolate eclair?

A: Not as many as it takes to unwrap one. See the videos below
